Welcome
to The Illustrated Homestead

Hi there!
My name is Azalea, and welcome to my blog about sourdough art, flowers, and creative living. A few things about me I am a wife and a homeschooling mom to two children. I am from Long Island, but I live in North Carolina. I have always loved all things creative and crafty.
I decided to start this blog so that I can share more about all of my passions hobbies, dreams and flops. I wanted to create a space to inspire, and encourage others, and build a community of people who all strive to create beauty in life and live creatively.
Join me on this journey as we explore the art of baking, the beauty of blossoms, and the joy of living creatively, all while fostering a sense of community and inspiration.

Then
I grew up in a cozy New England style village on Long Island, NY, surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Raised by my English parents, who brought their rich culture and traditions with them, I enjoyed a childhood filled with stories of old and quaint customs like daily tea time.
My family home was a charming 1860s farmhouse by the Long Island Sound, where the soothing sound of sea birds became a comforting backdrop to my everyday life. The large, creaky wooden floors and the aroma of freshly baked goods lingered in the air, creating an inviting atmosphere that welcomed friends and family alike. .
Now
My husband, children and I now live in a 1960s ranch home, which was once a parsonage in North Carolina, and we are surrounded by beautiful woods and farms that stretch endlessly in every direction. Each morning, we wake up to the melodious chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves, the distant crows of roosters creating a peaceful atmosphere that feels like a retreat from the busyness of life. We have two small children who we home school, we love being able to travel and connect with them through the learning process. My goal is to share our creative lifestyle.
Create anything
I am a woman of many hobbies, I enjoy listening to music reading, and spending time with my family. I also enjoy cozy video games, like animal crossing, and other games like fortnite. One of my goals is to learn more about fiber arts, particularly sewing and crochet. I also have an interest in self sufficiency , and I hope to learn more about making jams, jellys and pie fillings, as well as canning. One of my dreams has been to have a beautiful rose garden, I’m absolutely fascinated with cottage gardens and I hope to bring you along with me while I design ours.

Growing together
My hopes are to share with you all about creative living through gardening as well, it will be a journey where we learn together!
